Small Homely Country Hotel in The Cairngorms National Park.

The house is a small building dating from 1908, and it would be extremely difficult to put in a lift to get people and luggage to the first or second floors - and it would be impossibly expensive. We have always had a ramp to get wheelchair bound and visually impaired people in to the building and restaurant, fitting it back in 1987 when we opened. We also installed a series of grab rails in the downstairs and bedroom toilets. This makes the whole of the ground floor as fully accessible as possible.
The local disability access panel have given us the thumbs up on all of this.

We have several regular guests, both for the house and the restaurant who have mobility problems. One is a blind man, another a lady with a guide dog, and several who use two walking sticks. They all find the bedrooms are accessible due to the good staircase and sturdy handrails. All baths and showers have grab rails, and we have an extra, portable step to help with entering the shower. We can also provide stools that can be used in the showers.

On one occasion, we set up a bedroom on the ground floor for a lady who came in her own special traction bed. This was only made possible by her family having taken over the whole hotel for a special family week-end celebration. Hopefully we can overcome most problems for most guests.
