Jock & the
Twin Flower

in Curr Wood

This is one of the most floriferous of Curr Wood's patches of Twin Flower, where it is possible to catch the sweet scent if it's not a windy day! The plants are relatives of the honeysuckle and have thin scrambling stems which spread throughout the undergrowth on all sides.
Named after Carl von Linne, the Swedish botanist  who devised the modern naming system for plants. This was his favourite flower. Small pink flowers held in pairs on a stem about 2.5 inches high. More common in Scandinavia, it is very rare in the UK with only 16 plants recorded outside of Curr Wood - where there are over 40!
