The rich-brown capped B pinicola is in my opinion one of the very best, equal to the cep. Delicious cooked quickly in olive oil or butter, or raw in salads, it can be locally very common. The creamy brown Millar is delicious but can be confused with a deadly poisonous Clitocybe, as can the B. erythropus with deadly boletes. The red stemmed b. calopus in the foreground is not edible.

Clockwise from top left:- Orange birch boletus - small to (paler) large, Chanterelle, Boletus pinicola,
The Millar, Bay boletus, Brown birch boletus,
Hedgehog, Boletus calopus, Suillus variegatus,
Boletus pinicola and Boletus erythropus
