Scotch Argus

There are some wonderful insects buzzing around this area. In total, the Cairngorms National Park has recorded 25 species of butterfly

The most widely known and sought after is the Scotch Argus butterfly which emerges in early summer and flits over the lush grass in the locality.

Rare Hoverfly

There is an incredibly rare hoverfly - Blera fallax - the Pine Hoverfly - in Curr Wood behind Auchendean which is the subject of an experiment that has been so successul that it is being repeated elsewhere to help boost the numbers. It is only known from 2 sites in Britain, and the other is in nearby Grantown-on-Spey. We occassionally see them in the garden and I have seen them in my greenhouse!
