Auchendean is in the scenically beautiful Cairngorms National Park
- an area which offers almost limitless Activities

Untitled Document

There is so much to do at all times of the year in this area it's difficult to keep up!
The year starts of course with Hogmanay, a huge celebration that carries on for several days. Each village and town in the area will organise events: torch-lit parades, fireworks and street parties for the fun of all. At Christmas, Santa Claus is pulled through the streets on a sleigh pulled by live reindeer - accompanied,of course by a stirring pipe band.
The rest of the year is no less busy with all manner of things cropping up on a weekly basis.

Annual Local Events

Here are a few local events - but there will be many more!

Spring

Mid February sees a Ceilidh held in Nethy Bridge Village Hall. Easter normally sees the first blooms in our gardens and May & June see all sorts of outdoor events as the days lengthen.

Like whisky? Well you don't have to but it helps, especially if you go to the Speyside Malt Whisky Festival in late April early May. There is also a Malt Whisky Trail.

Summer

June into July and the Abernethy Open Gardens Tour takes place for a local charity. Your chance to see around other folks' gardens, and have lunch out, all for the same charity.

There are Scots Nights in Nethy Bridge in July and August

July brings lots of Highland Games but the best by far (we think!) is held in local Nethy Bridge on the second Saturday of each August. The heather starts to flower in August and we look forward to the Harley Davidson bike rally - Thunder in the Glens.

There's Motor Mania and a Triathlon in Grantown as well as the fantastic Grantown-on-Spey Agricultural Show.

Autumn

September and we get nice flushes of wild fungi to feast on, and the start of the autumn berries and leaf colours.

October and the autumn colours can rival anywhere.

Winter

November and December frosts and snows herald the start of the skiing season on Cairngorm Mountain. You can actually see the skiers with good binoculars from Auchendean!
