Agricultural Shows are anticipated all year in the Highlands
The nearest agricultural show is held in August - The Grantown Show. Held on the north end of the town at Black Park, by the golf course and sports centre. It starts with a pipe band and procession of decorated floats, and there are displays of old agricultural machinery, livestock and home produce competitions of all kinds. They hold Kiddies Races, a Pets Parade and Terrier Races!
Held over 2 days in early August each year in Muir of Ord, Ross-shire. This is a large show with a main ring and a huge number of trade stalls. The tents hold a Flower Show, Food and Craft Hall, and catering. There's a Goat Show and a Fur & Feather Tent, a Sheep Shearing Competition, display of vintage tractors - and a fun fair.
Known as the May Game Fair, the Highland Field Sports Fair is held at
Moy between Auchendean and Inverness. The emphasis is on field-sports
activities and there are competitions in fly casting, gun dog
handling as well as clay pigeon shooting. The main
ring shows are varied but you may see gun dog or fly-casting demonstrations,
pipe bands, falconry displays - and probably lots more!
There will be many
stalls selling the best of Scottish produce. That could be anything
from traditional Venison to Arbroath Smokies, or you could
purchase a Scottish made dog harness or a walking stick.
