Strathspey Steam Railway's 46512 in the fields immediately below Auchendean
Strathspey Steam Railway runs their stock from Aviemore to Auchendean and return. The terminus is Broomhill Station, in the fields immeadiately below Auchendean. In the summer, there are 3 or 4 trips a day, and you can buy refershments, lunch, and at times dinner on the train. The latter needs to be booked.
The "Whisky Line" Keith
and Dufftown Railway
The line runs for 11 miles between the two towns. The line, which was re-opened
by volunteers in 2000 to 2001, passes through some of Scotland's most picturesque
scenery, through forests, past lochs and glens, castles and distilleries.
Occassionally, the Strathspey Steam Railway runs guest engines, and
they have special week-ends from time to time in the summer.
There
is the Teddy Bears Weekend in May, Steam Fair & Tractorfest in July,
and a tie up in August with the Abernethy Highland Games and also
Motor Mania in Grantown-on-Spey in September. See their web
pages for
more weekends and details.
Broomhill Station was used in the BBC programme 'Monarch of the Glen' when it was called "GlenBogle Station".
