Steam and preserved Railways near Auchendean

There are two preserved railways within easy reach of Auchendean.

Strathspey Steam Railway

Strathspey Steam Railway runs their stock from Aviemore to Auchendean and return. The terminus is Broomhill Station, in the fields immeadiately below Auchendean. In the summer, there are 3 or 4 trips a day, and you can buy refershments, lunch, and at times dinner on the train. The latter needs to be booked.

Keith and Dufftown Railway

The "Whisky Line" Keith and Dufftown Railway
The line runs for 11 miles between the two towns. The line, which was re-opened by volunteers in 2000 to 2001, passes through some of Scotland's most picturesque scenery, through forests, past lochs and glens, castles and distilleries.

Annual Events and Guest Engines

Occassionally, the Strathspey Steam Railway runs guest engines, and they have special week-ends from time to time in the summer.
There is the Teddy Bears Weekend in May, Steam Fair & Tractorfest in July, and a tie up in August with the Abernethy Highland Games and also Motor Mania in Grantown-on-Spey in September. See their web pages for more weekends and details.

BBC Monarch of the Glen and Broomhill Station

Broomhill Station was used in the BBC programme 'Monarch of the Glen' when it was called "GlenBogle Station".
