The Mass Ride-Out of the Harley Davidson enthusiasts as they ride past Auchendean
Every year, on the bank holiday at the end of August, there is a meeting of hundreds of Harley-Davidson enthusiasts based in Aviemore.
The Harley-Davidsons Club holds a mass ride-out on the Saturday of the weekend from Aviemore to Grantown-on-Spey where they gather in the Square - effectively taking over the town. All in all, it's a wonderful friendly atmosphere.
Their route changes slightly each year but they often pass Auchendean and it's no exaggeration to say that the air throbs as they go by in their hundreds, two abreast for 30 minutes. All types of harleys are present from bikes to 3 wheel bikes and trikes.
The Harleys are often
bedecked with the flags of many nations, and the drivers often
decorate their helmets as well as their bikes, some of which
have works of art painted on them. Face scarves are often designed
with skulls!
The 10 mile route is lined with people and the Harley
Riders and passengers return waves and honk horns and sirens.
There is a party atmosphere as the Square and High Street are taken over by hundreds of Harleys and their drivers. There are food and charity stalls and other interesting displays. There's usually a Drum band.
The whole of Aviemore rocks to the sounds and smells of the Harley weekend. There are entertainers and tents in the main road and the hotel car park is taken over with bikes.
A good place to see them in Aviemore is in the Aviemore Resort car park.
